About the foundation
The Marja and Rauno Mattila Foundation is based in Turku and supports education, research, and skills development in the field of technology. The foundation was established to continue the legacy of Industry Counselor Rauno Mattila and his wife Marja Mattila, building on their commitment, expertise, and belief in the importance of education for societal development.
At the core of the foundation’s work are promoting knowledge, responsibility, and long-term commitment. The foundation supports students and researchers who advance technological sciences and contribute to a sustainable, well-functioning future. Grants are awarded not only to individual talented applicants but also to projects that foster development and collaboration across universities, research institutions, and industry. Additionally, the foundation seeks to engage in public discourse on current issues and to promote a broader understanding of the importance of education and skills, and their impact on society.

Grants
The Marja and Rauno Mattila Foundation supports students and researchers in the field of technology by awarding grants for studies and research both in Finland and abroad. Grants may also be awarded for activities that support studies or research, including projects and collaborations with other organizations.
Grants are awarded based on applications, taking into account the applicant’s talent, merits, or other special reasons. The foundation may support individual applicants, research groups, or organizations, and aims to provide grants of sufficient size to genuinely promote the recipients’ academic and research work.

Who can apply
Grants can be applied for by individuals, working groups, or organizations.
Grants can be applied for studies carried out in Finland or abroad, or to support such studies.
Grants are also awarded for activities that support studies or research.
2026 grants
The application period for 2026 grants is 20.4.-11.5.
The spring round is intended for doctoral researchers at the Faculty of Technology, University of Turku. Priority will be given to first-year doctoral researchers who are in the early stages of their research.

Decisions on grant awards are communicated to applicants through the online grant system.
